
Known for its cooler climate than other wine regions in the state, the Adelaide Hills wine region is actually very diverse. Thanks to the rolling hills, the region is marked by low and high elevations, forming microclimates that can produce different flavor profiles and intensities.
Mid-climate varies by elevation, but overall cool climate. The area is very hilly with various valleys and creeks. The west-facing slopes of some of the Northern Mountains are warm enough for Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen. Most of this region is best suited for early varieties.
Mainly grey-brown or brown clay sand, some patches of mostly sandy soil.
