Dromana's wine won a prestigious award at the Intercontinental Exposition in London in 1886, making it one of his earliest references to winemaking in the area. However, increased import competition from South Australia and Great Britain ravaged a significant portion of the Mornington Peninsula by the 1920s.The Mornington Peninsula has become a major Australian and international wine region thanks to a significant wine boom that began in the 1970s.

THE CLIMATE

The Mornington Peninsula's southern location and maritime climate make it cooler than most other parts of Australia. During the grape-growing summer months of November and December, which produce ideal conditions for the region's signature varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, there is frequently wind and rain.
