Ros has always loved about her life in winemaking is the opportunity to travel and experience the culture of wines (and food) in the world's wine regions – over the years she has taken these opportunities to travel within New Zealand, France, Germany and a little of Italy, several times, but especially to Alsace, Baden, the Mosel, Rheingau and Pfalz, whose wines strengthened her passion for riesling and gewürztraminer and stimulated her interest in pinot gris. More recently her visits to the northern American wine regions of BC, New York State, Oregon and Washington have added to her desire to continue developing her aromatic wines styles.

Estate Grown. Hand selected in mid-March from Rows 15-34 grown on the rocky, ironstone hilltop of the east facing Riesling block; whole bunch pressed direct to tank, juice was racked off fine lees and cool fermented to dryness with selected yeasts for 32 days, after which it was matured on lees for 2 months before bottling.
With fragrant aromas of cumquat, jasmine and lemon blossom, the palate is lively and long, with racy acidity and finishes with a minerally, slatey tang. A wine delicious for drinking now but is also built for aging. Halliday 95 points.
After graduating from Roseworthy at the end of 1981, Ros returned home to Victoria to help establish and set up the Delatite winery. She was the winemaker for Delatite for the next 25 years.Â
Over the years she took several opportunities to travel within France, Germany and Italy. In 2008, Ros established her own winemaking enterprise with an independent label.
THE award–winning winery, Ros Ritchie Wines, is situated in the beautiful and popular Mansfield wine growing region of central Victoria yet lends its own unique aspect to the wines produced year after year.
Ros, with her husband John Adams, established her own enterprise and independent label in 2008, after being a winemaker in the industry for 25 years.
Ros selects high quality white and red grape varieties from small growers in the Mansfield region, which has ensured Ros Ritchie Wines excels in the local and national marketplaces.
The wines consistently score highly in Halliday's Wine companion, with her Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Nebbiolo and Cabernet Sauvignon being highlights.
Ros and John are partners in Barwite Vineyard, which grows the fruit for our sparkling base, chardonnay, riesling, pinot grigio and now shiraz; the Dead Man's Hill vineyard in the county of Delatite, which is planted solely to gewürztraminer and inherited by Ros in 2009, makes both her dry and sweeter gewurz's.
These small vineyards produce grapes with delicious ripe flavours from low cropping vines and are tended with minimal herbicide and fungicide use.
Vinyards: Barwite, Baxendale, Black Range, Dead Man's Hill, Altitude 221, McFadden's, Sandy Creek, Timbertop.
After 2 vintages in Rutherglen and McLaren Vale, then 25 years at Delatite, Ros established her own winemaking enterprise and label at Mansfield in 2008; soon she and her husband John moved their operation to new purpose-built cellars on Barwite Vineyards above the Broken River near Mansfield.Â
We have recently opened a Cellar Door at the Magnolia on Mount Buller Road in Mansfield, a beautiful and historic location with lovely garden surrounds. Pop~in and sample our stunning wines and delicious pairing food ~ OPEN Friday - Sunday and some public holidays.
